A Cashmere Thought

Recently LG announced it has started production of its newest display product, the Electronic Paper Display. It is planned to be revealed in Europe sometime next month.

The display is a 6-inch e-ink screen, is less than a millimeter thick and weighs 14 grams.

So what’s the big deal? It just sounds like another e-reader? The EPD is flexible! For the first time a flexible e-ink display will be in mass production and that’s freaking awesome. It’s not quite foldable yet… but LG says the display can bend 40 degrees from center. Which for me means you can sit on it and it won’t break.

Right now the EPD can really only be conceived as an e-reader, but this can certainly be realized as a stepping stone to better flexible displays that can lead to other uses.

Also, Samsung will apparently release something like this soon.
