Movies Review: Chashme Baddoor

Image

cast: Ali Zafar, Siddharth, Taapsee Pannu, Divyendu Sharma

Direction: David Dhawan

Rating: 2.5/5

‘Chashme Baddoor’ is exactly like any other film David Dhawan film, it is a good time pass. There is no clever humour but there is enough comedy to assure a few genuine laughs.

Omi (Divyendu Sharma), Jai (Siddharth) and Siddharth (Ali Zafar) are three close friends who fall for the same girl. While the other two are just looking to have fun, Siddharth is genuinely in love with the new next door neighbor. Omi and Jai decide to play villains when they realize that their best friend has managed to win over the girl that they both had set their eyes on. Confusion and misadventures ensue as we try to figure out a way to get the lovers back together.

‘Chashme Baddooor’ cannot boast of any smart writing, the comedy is mostly situational. The plot seldom digresses from the point except to include the sub-plot about Joseph (Rishi Kapoor) – Josephine (Lillete Dubey) romance. The problem, however is that the side story is not strong enough to contribute either substantially to the narrative or to provide any extra laughs.

The performances are strictly okay except Anupam Kher who in a double role is twice as much fun as the rest of the actors put together. The music too doesn’t really make an impression except the ‘Har ek friend kamina hota hai’ song which is quite a catchy number. David Dhawan’s humour is slapstick but never cringe-worthy. ‘Chashme Baddoor’ is definitely a fun watch.

Google may launch an Android-based laptop this year

BGR

Since Google’s (GOOG) Chromebook initiative has so far failed to turn the PC market on its head, the company may be planning to shake things up even more by releasing a notebook based on its hugely popular Android operating system. The latest rumors from Digitimes indicate that Google is building an Android-powered notebook PC that “may show up at the end of the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter.” Digitimes suggests that the “Androidbook” will be the handiwork of Sundar Pichai, the longtime boss of Google’s Chrome division who recently took over for longtime Android chief Andy Rubin as head of Google’s mobile operating system.

Tesla’s Awful Sales News

24/7 Wall St.

Tesla Model STesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) announced that its most recent quarter would be profitable, and its shares rose 19% to $45, which is above its 52-week high. The electronic car company is still in a horrible business. It sold more than 4,750 cars, or units as it calls them. There is no economy of scale at that level, which is what eventually will doom the company.

Elon Musk, Tesla Motors co-founder and CEO, said:

I am incredibly proud of the Tesla team for their outstanding work. There have been many car startups over the past several decades, but profitability is what makes a company real. Tesla is here to stay and keep fighting for the electric car revolution.

That revolution already has ended, as global electric car sales have faltered, buried by clean diesel, falling gas prices and a clear preference among buyers of hybrids for the Toyota Motor Corp…

How a dead duck changed the TED audience’s life

TED Blog

[ted_talkteaser id=1703]In the days leading up to TED2013, we at the TED Blog revealed the best props at TEDs past and showed you the speakers who’d brought animals on stage with them. Little did we know that, on the day two of the conference, we’d meet a speaker who’d combine both.

In today’s talk, given at TED2013, Kees Moeliker illuminates how finding a dead duck one summer day changed the course of his professional life. It’s an incredible, hilarious and unexpected story. And to highlight the importance of said duck, Moeliker physically brought it on stage with him. Dead for nearly eighteen years (Moeliker found this duck outside of the Natural History Museum Rotterdam, where he works, in 1995 and had him stuffed for posterity), Moeliker took the taxidermied duck out of a plastic bag and passed it to a brave audience member.

Below, see the hilarity that ensued…

Apple’s iWatch Is Actually Just A Wrist Band That Attaches To Your iPhone, iPad

TechCrunch

The much-rumored Apple iWatch isn’t as exciting as you might have thought.

We’ve heard rumors of flexible displays and Siri integration, but it appears that Apple’s iWatch is actually just a band meant to connect with the Apple device of your choice.

According to this leaked video, which uses stand-ins for rehearsal instead of real Apple execs and designers, the band lets you slap your iPhone or iPad onto the strap and conduct your business directly from your wrist. The band will sell for $249, to compete with other smart watch offerings on the market, and use will require the purchase of an iPhone or iPad.

We’ve reached out to Apple regarding availability, but haven’t heard anything yet. Analysts predict the iWatch will land in July, alongside the next-generation iPhone.

While the firm wouldn’t comment on availability, they did mention that users have the option to use latest generation MBAs…

Android’s market share lead over iOS explodes to eight points in the U.S.

BGR

Kantar is out with its smartphone market share numbers for three months ending in February and Android devices continue pulling away from iPhone in the United States. A year ago, iOS led Android by 47%-45% in the smartphone operating system market share competition. By February 2013, Android had moved to a 51%-43% lead. This report is a fairly strong argument for why Apple (AAPL) must get a budget smartphone out as soon as it can. The Apple brand is far stronger in its home market than it is in Asia, Latin America or even continental Europe. Yet even in its stronghold, Apple’s smartphone market share is now slipping fast as new buyers gravitate towards cheaper options or are captured by Samsung’s (005930) Galaxy glamor.

YouTube Co-Founder Teases Upcoming Video Site MixBit, A Destination For Collaborative Video Creation

TechCrunch

YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley used an April Fools’ joke to promote his upcoming new product, a video-focused site called MixBit (via the Verge) that emphasizes collaborative video creation, rather than trying to compete with YouTube for a viewing audience. Very little has been revealed about MixBit as of yet, beyond the landing page which allows people to sign up for notifications about its upcoming launch, but in an SXSW Q&A Hurley revealed some information.

In that session, hosted by Digg co-founder Kevin Rose, Hurley suggested that MixBit (then left unnamed) would be a platform more targeted at creating video with others than YouTube, and that the product would be able to be unveiled “about a month later,” which translates to early April.

As far as creator-focused video platforms go, there’s already Vimeo, which distinguishes itself from YouTube based on its appeal to video professionals who focus on quality, vs. the…
